In the ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity, it’s rare to come across a startup that truly stands out from the crowd. That’s why we’re excited to announce our recent investment in Tuskira, an early-stage company that’s set to transform the way enterprises manage vulnerabilities and protect their digital assets.
Our journey with Tuskira began through a serendipitous connection. We previously invested in Bridgecrew (acquired by Palo Alto Networks in 2021) and, in the process, became familiar with Accurics, one of Bridgecrew’s more formidable competitors. As we got to know Accurics, we were immediately impressed by Piyush Sharma, the company’s co-founder and CEO. We appreciated the way he thought about risk mitigation and how enterprise security vulnerabilities could be understood and prioritized using non-traditional methods and data. We stayed in touch and followed his career. We expected more great things from him in the future.
After Tenable acquired Accurics in October 2021, we asked Piyush to help us perform due diligence on several companies Sorenson was evaluating for investment. Eventually, we started ideating with Piyush on cybersecurity startup ideas in the vulnerability management space. When Piyush developed his thesis around Tuskira, we jumped on it.
Thanks to investments in companies like Kenna (acquired by Cisco), CyCognito, Netrise, and VulnCheck, Sorenson Capital has extensive vulnerability management experience and recognized a critical gap in the market. Enterprises were drowning in alerts from disparate systems and lacked a cohesive approach to prioritize and address vulnerabilities effectively.
Tuskira’s solution tackles this challenge head-on. Their platform aggregates vulnerabilities, alerts, and configuration data from various security systems such as Palo Alto Networks, Zscaler, and Crowdstrike. They normalize the data in their proprietary data mesh and apply advanced AI algorithms to provide a holistic view of an enterprise’s security landscape for their enterprise customers.
What really sets Tuskira apart is its ability to contextualize vulnerabilities within the business environment. The platform doesn’t just identify issues; it understands their potential impact on specific business applications and revenue streams. This context-aware approach enables a more intelligent prioritization of security efforts that fundamentally takes customers’ business objectives into consideration.
Tuskira goes beyond mere identification and prioritization. First, it has created a user interface, which presents complex security data in an intuitive and actionable format and ensures that security teams can quickly understand and act on the provided intelligence. Second, the platform takes real-time action, automatically updating configurations on security tools like Palo Alto Firewalls or Crowdstrike systems and providing playbooks that guide users through the mitigation lifecycle. This proactive approach significantly reduces the time between threat detection and mitigation, which is a crucial factor in today’s fast-paced threat landscape.
In a world where cyber threats are constantly evolving, Tuskira represents an important shift in how enterprises approach vulnerability management. By combining AI-powered insights with actionable intelligence and automated responses, Tuskira is poised to transform the Vulnerability Management sector.
Our decision to lead the pre-seed round, alongside Rain Capital’s Chenxi Wang and a group of experienced security angels, was driven by our conviction in Tuskira’s potential to revolutionize cybersecurity practices. As the earliest believers in the company, we’re excited to support Piyush and his team as they bring their vision to life.
We look forward to working closely with the Tuskira team as they continue to innovate and shape the future of enterprise security. With their unique approach and our support, we believe Tuskira is well-positioned to become a leader in the next generation of cybersecurity solutions.
